Channel 101 has had at least one bona fide hit in "Yacht Rock," the video history of smooth music, Kenny Loggins, Michael MacDonald and Koko's Boathouse. If you haven't yet treated yourself to any of the nine episodes (so far) of the best home-brewed continuing series on the web, go now and fill yourself in.
Now comes "Your Magic Touched Me," the story of a "faggy Asian magician" who uses his special powers to make the world a better place to the tunes of Seal and Enigma.
Only two episodes of director, writer and star Ryan Nagata are available so far, but they get better as they go which is a good sign. Sometimes a high concept can only sustain an episode before it collapses in on itself or discovers the idea is only good for one pass. "You Magic Touched Me," however, looks like it has a lot left to it.
That's not saying that there's a hell of a lot going on. Basically, magician Shizuki Thornbird appears by magic where he's needed, whether it's saving a son from a life in a gang being repeated shot by thugs in an Accord (his father has a thing for shrimp, which might explain things) or materializing under a sheet on a boardroom table to thwart a corporation's plan to dump waste on Indian land by spraying rainbows at an Egypt hater (it makes sense in context, sort of).
Spend a couple of minutes of your valuable Web time downloading and viewing the episodes and help us all see more of Shizuki Thornbird's very special magic.
